ASANA Player Spotlight: Rosalyn Bugg

ree

When you think of the heart and history of ASANA, few stories capture it better than Rosalyn. She first joined in 1991, took a break in 2011, and returned in 2019, picking up right where she left off. Today, she serves as the Tournament Director for both the ASANA World Series and Sin City Classic bringing decades of passion and experience to the field.

Her very first memory with ASANA takes us back to the 1991 World Series in Los Angeles. “It was a new world,” she recalls. That moment opened the door to not just competition, but a lifelong community.

For Ros, ASANA has always meant more than softball:

"ASANA is a chance for all of us to open our arms, come together, to play the sport we probably love too much, and experience our community in a positive way."

That sense of belonging and celebration is what fuels her leadership. As she puts it:

“ASANA is a unique organization, and it is a great privilege for me, as a woman of color, to be a part of the rainbow we represent.”

Her path to the ASANA Board started when the Tournament Director position opened. With her experience organizing the Sin City Classic, she was asked to step in and bring that expertise to ASANA’s biggest stage. The rest, as they say, is history.

When asked where she’d love to host a tournament, her answer comes quickly: Palm Springs, California. October. (Don’t hesitate to ask her about it!)

Of course, she’s gathered more than a few unforgettable memories over the years. One favorite? Being part of the first Los Angeles team, Bent, to place in a World Series, especially when they took out Nina Cole’s team, Heat, along the way.

From those first steps onto the field in Los Angeles to leading two of the biggest LGBTQ+ softball tournaments today, Rosalyn's journey is a reminder of what makes ASANA special: community, competition, and the power of showing up...for each other and for the game we love.
