2022 ASANA Softball World Series Teams
Due to the number of World Series bound teams, and the ratings composition of those teams, the ASANA Board of Directors is excited to announce that there will be 4 unique divisions of play this year – Johnson, Lorde, Murray & Windsor! The divisions are named after influential figures in LGBTQ history and teams were placed in each division based on their players’ ratings at the time of the roster submission deadline. We are excited to have a more balanced number of teams in each division this year and look forward to seeing lots of competitive games at the 2022 World Series!
NOTE: All players in each division must have a rating equal to or less than the ratings listed as follows: Johnson: 85, Lorde: 75, Murray: 65, Windsor: 49.

Division Names - a brief history:
-
Johnson: Marsha P. Johnson was a gay liberation activist, self-identified drag queen, performer and prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969, who went on to advocate for AIDS with ACT UP and also co-found the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a group committed to helping homeless transgender youth in NYC.
-
Lorde: Born in 1934 in New York City, Audre Lorde was a self-described "black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet," who dedicated both her life and creative talent to confronting and addressing injustices of racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia.
-
Murray: Pauli Murray was a trailblazing non-binary Black lawyer, civil rights activist, poet, author and Episcopal priest who created innovative legal strategies to help achieve equality for all. They were instrumental in arguing the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment that outlawed discrimination based on sex and later influenced Thurgood Marshall and Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s work.
-
Windsor: Edith (Edie) Windsor was an LGBTQ+ rights activist whose 2013 landmark case led the Supreme Court to rule that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional and that the federal government cannot discriminate against married lesbian and gay couples, setting the stage for marriage equality for all.
